The Bookworm

I received a beautiful print entitled “The Bookworm” by Carl Spitzweg. It has a custom frame and matting that are absolutely perfectly matched with the print. It will be an excellent edition to my library. The original was painted in 1850 and is housed in the Museum Georg Schafer. Spitzweg was both a painter and a poet and if you look at some of his other pieces you will get the sense that he is observing the world around him but in a slightly romanticized way. He has also been attributed to placing humor behind work.

I am always excited to receive a gift that has something to do with literature but I was truly blown away by this piece. I’m a new Carl Spitzweg fan.
